The broadcast video ecosystem is continually changing, resulting in increased demands for high-capacity 4K and beyond digital transmission through today’s SDI infrastructures and the emerging video-over-IP infrastructures. This requires expanded capabilities throughout the broadcast video chain, from camera to consumer.
SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers®) has been governing many of the advancements.
The SMPTE ST 2082 standard defines the mapping of various source image formats onto a single-link, dual-link and quad-link serial digital interface operating at a nominal rate of 12 Gbps.
The 12G-SDI (12 Gbps Signal/Data Serial Interface) data flow has a correlating physical structure outlined for broadcast and digital video production. This includes specifying characteristics of the coaxial cable assemblies and connectors within the system: 75 Ohm impedance, with a BNC or DIN 1.0/2.3 mating interface. Samtec’s high-density BNC interface is also a popular 12G-SDI solution.
Samtec offers proprietary BNC and high-density BNC products, designed for use in pick-and-place machines for high-volume manufacturing. In addition, a full line of RF interconnects are available supporting frequencies from 6 GHz to 110 GHz. As a manufacturer of a broad line of electronic interconnects, other Samtec broadcast video solutions include high-speed arrays and edge cards, copper and optical Flyover® assemblies, and backplane.
